Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Helicopter tourism is all set to hit Goa with over six helipads planned to be set up in major cities and beach side locations in the state of Goa with one helipad planned alongside the Mandovi bridge and five other such take-off surfaces across the state including Colva and Old Goa.

The project estimated to cost around 3 crore is expected to be funded by both the state and the central governments. The sites identified for the project are at Aguada in Sinquerim, Ela at Old Goa, Panaji at the Mandovi bridge, Mollem, Tiracol and Colva. There is also a proposal to have a helipad at Cabo de Rama.Goa helicopter tourism

The government of Goa is expected top prepare the infrastructure for the project and further lease it to a company providing helicopter services. The pricing for the sight-seeing helicopter rides will be at the discretion of the company and the state government is not expected to regulate the same.

The Panaji helipad is projected to be built on top of a four storeyed parking lot to be constructed alongside the Mandovi bridge. the building is expected to house parking facilities for two wheelers, four wheelers and heavy vehicles. It will also feature a reception area, a cafeteria and counters of the cruise boat operations on the Mandovi river.

The proposal for helicopter tourism in Goa was first identified in 2006 but had not taken off since then and the state government of Goa has now re-visited this concept in a bid to boost the tourism potential of Goa.
