In a bid to give a boost to tourism in Goa, the Goa tourism department has decided to change its marketing strategy and promote Goa on a different scale to ensure that the state does not lose out to rising competition in the tourism industry.

The awakening has also been triggered by the fact that there has been a decline in the flow of tourists to Goa for the last few years which has made the department of tourism realise that all is not well. While the number of tourists from the United Kingdom who visited Goa in 2007-2008 was roughly around 1 lakh, the figure was cut by half for the year 2009-2010. The case was no different with figures of tourists for other European countries such as Finland, Italy, Denmark and Switzerland heading for Goa.
